Mason, Janice Ruth (nee Wyckoff), 82 of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 1, 2013 at Shore Memorial Hospital. Janice is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frederick; a daughter, Kathleen; and a son, David. Janice was preceded into heaven by her oldest son, Kenneth; her parents, A. Dumont and Ruth Wyckoff; and her brother, Craig Wyckoff. Born April 28, 1930, she attended Drury University and met her eventual husband before returning to NJ. Janice and Fred came together as a family and wed on February 10, 1951. There were three children from this union: Kenneth Bruce Mason, Kathleen Sue Ingersoll, and David Craig Mason. Kathi married Clark Wayne Ingersoll and had three children: Stuart, Tyler, and Ashley. David married Catherine Lynn Williams and had three children: Allison, Scott and Craig. Kenneth passed away at age 25 after graduating from college and returning home to help raise his brother. Janice made friends and left a positive impression on all she met through her contact with them in West Orange, NJ, Marcellus, NY and Egg Harbor Twp. She loved children and was a very adept teacher, helping many acquire reading skills through some of her many jobs and volunteer activities. She was also very active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She grew up with a strong appreciation for the outdoors. She was involved in the Methodist Church in Marcellus and taught Sunday school and pre-kindergarten while in upstate NY. Upon the move to NJ, Janice acquired a job in retail and eventually managed several Jamesway stores in the 80′s and 90′s. Never content to be idle, she held several jobs in Smithville and other department stores. Eventually, however, she returned to her passion of teaching and volunteered in the Ventnor Elementary School as a teacher’s aide. Janice and Fred had many adventurous trips around the globe. First with their family, igniting a spark for traveling and the outdoors, and later together to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Central America, Canada, and all over the US. Janice will be missed dearly by her family and all the individuals whose lives she changed for the better. Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
