MAZZONE, JOSEPH JR. 82 passed away at Meadowview Nursing Home with his wife and sister at his bedside. He was the son of the late Joseph and Louise (Erskine) Mazzone.
Joe was a happy go lucky guy who loved to fly, sing, sail the open seas in his sailboat and ride his motorcycle. After several years in the Navy he became a firefighter in Pleasantville and later Baltimore City, MD. before becoming an airline pilot for Continental Airlines, retiring as a Captain on international flights. Among his many
accomplishments, he was most proud of his International Barbershop Quartet championship in 1974 with The Regents.
He is survived by his beloved wife Peggy (Fleming), his children Sherry (Mike) James, Nancy (George) Duffield, JoAnn (Robert) Mazzone, Joseph (Debbie) Mazzone, III, stepdaughters Robin Roberts, Stephanie Sokol and stepson Jeffrey Schillinger, (deceased) as well as brothers Frank (Anita) Mazzone, Charles (Betty) Mazzone and sister, Marie(Ken) D’Amato; Grandfather of 12 with 14 Great-Grandchildren. Also survived by his first wife, Joan Huking.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17 at the New Life Church, 2577 Tilton Road, Egg Harbor Township, NJ from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, services to follow with burial at the Atlantic County Veteran’s Cemetery, Estell Manor, NJ.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 25 Dolphin Ave, Northfield.
