McGAFFNEY, VIRGINIA (CROUSE), 86 – of Egg Harbor Township passed away on August 31 peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Philadelphia, Virginia grew up in Atlantic City where she met John J. McGaffney, her husband of 62 years. They moved to Northfield to raise their family, which was the center of Virginia’s world. She was the president of Northfield Parent-Teacher Association and worked at Sears, the former House & Garden department store and the former Sugar Pine Workshop in Northfield. During her retirement, she finished a book and a crossword puzzle nearly every day, and rarely missed a Phillies broadcast. Virginia loved to bake, particularly chocolate cake and gingerbread, which was a staple at the Christmas Eve celebrations she and John hosted every year for more than two dozen relatives. Virginia is predeceased by her parents, John and Virginia Crouse, as well as her brother John and sister Ellen. She is survived by John, their children John F. (Kathleen), Christine, Nancy Morris (Mike) and Patricia Previti (Anthony); grandchildren Matthew (Renee), Cari, Emily, Erin Wilkenson (Matt), Anna, Timothy and Laura; great-grandchildren Matthew, Marissa, Shea, Macky, Ty and Bailey; her brother Edward (Dolores); and Loretta Crowne, her friend of more than 50 years. They cannot remember Virginia raising her voice or saying a bad word about anyone. They will never forget her patience, or the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures, and forever appreciate the supportive, caring family she created and loved so dearly.
A Visitation will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5th, with a service at 11am at Adams Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. Burial will follow at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.
