Hickey, Daniel F., Sr. – 81 of Northfield, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016. Known to most as “Big Dan”, he was a 1952 graduate of Pleasantville High School, a Northfield City Councilman, past President of both the Linwood and Northfield Democratic Clubs, and a past Zoning Officer for the City of Linwood. Dan was a member of Laborers Local 172 for 40 years, and a business agent for the union for eight years. Dan was also a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish for many years. There was no denying Dan’s Irish heritage, which was always somehow displayed. A longtime member at Mays Landing Country Club, he was an avid golfer in any weather and he left a trail of broken clubs behind to prove it. He looked forward to flounder fishing during the summer, and had a love/hate relationship with the NY Yankees his whole life. He also enjoyed his beloved pets, Patton and Ruffley. However, nothing compared to his love for his family; the time spent with them was his most favorite thing of all. A loyal friend, and a wonderful family man, Big Dan will be greatly missed by all. Everyone who knew him will always have a story to tell. He was predeceased by the love of his life, whom he missed terribly every day for the last 15 years, Carol Dene; his daughter, Colleen Flanagan; and his daughter-in-law, Marge Hickey. He is survived by his children: Pamela, Daniel, and Colin (Stacey) Hickey all of Northfield, and Jill Boehler (Michael) of Lehighton, PA; his sister, Patricia Connor of White Deer, PA; his son-in-law, Mike Flanagan of Egg Harbor Township; his uncle, J. Alan Ruffley of Duncansville, PA; and his grandchildren: Samantha Hickey of Northfield, Brynn and Brody Boehler of Lehighton, PA, and Justin, Regan, and McKenna Hickey of Northfield. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 18th from 7pm until 9pm at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield, and again on Tuesday, January 19th from 12:30pm until 1pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 724 Maple Avenue, Linwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1pm. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.
