Brown, Carmena C., 88, of Northfield. A devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, born in Ocean City and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. A faithful servant, she enjoyed attending Mass, at St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish, in Northfield. At a young age, she helped her family survive the Great Depression by selling vegetables door to door from her wagon. She knit sweaters and sold them for twenty-five cents each to a ladies shop on Steeplechase Pier. She started working as a waitress at age 16, at Mammy’s Restaurant, on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, during World War II. She continued her career working alongside her sister Kay and family, at Caesar’s Restaurant, on Main St, in Pleasantville, then for 30 years, in Mays Landing. She was a popular waitress on Station Number One. She garnered a multitude of “Regulars” who were drawn to her humble demeanor and warm personality, many who have remained loyal friends to this day. She retired as a waitress at age 77, from Norm’s Point Pub in Somers Point.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard John Brown, son, Bernard Francis Brown, daughter, Margaret Esther Donnelly, and infant son, John Brown, sisters, Catherine Casario and Jenny Smith, and brothers, Dominick Perri, Louis Perri, Frank Perri, Sr., and Mariano Perri.
