CHANNELL, BETTY L. 86 – of Galloway Township, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014. Betty was born on September 20, 1927 in Linwood, NJ to William R. Smith and Florence (Shimp) Smith. She was raised in Atlantic City where she graduated from the Atlantic City Vocational School. Betty worked for William Schoppe Jewelers and New Jersey Bell Telephone as a long-distance operator. She married her “doll,” George A. Channell of Pleasantville, in 1947 at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Atlantic City. Together they raised two daughters, Elizabeth Linda Rhodes and Barbara Anne Channell, and were members of the Church of the Assumption in Galloway, NJ. Betty enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines vocal group, league bowling, baking and decorating cakes, working flea markets, relaxing on the Brigantine beach, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. The Channells also traveled to Clearwater, Florida for many years to attend the Phillies training camp. Mrs. Channell is predeceased by her husband of 66 years; her mother and father; her youngest daughter Barbara Channell; her sister Shirley Benton and brother-in-law William Donald Benton; and her brothers Bill Smith, Edwin Smith and Charles Smith. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Linda Rhodes (James); granddaughters Jennifer Kaas (Ron) and Jessica Young (Jared); grandson James Rhodes Jr. (Shannon); great-grandchildren Alexandria Rowe, Ronald Kaas, George Kaas, James Rhodes III, and Lauren Rhodes; great-great granddaughter Olivia Rowe; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 23 from 10am until 11am at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield.
